Injuries, First Aid, AED, and other Equipment

Injuries & First Aid

First aid kits are strategically placed throughout back of house spaces, offices and some classrooms.
Security is responsible for maintaining the stock of first aid supplies for the facility. The First aid room is located near the main entrance for use if a first aid situation arises with a guest in our public spaces.

TMA Staff and Volunteers are not medical personnel and should not give medical advice or administer first aid beyond band aids and ice packs.

If a guest, employee or volunteer is injured and it appears they may need medical attention beyond a band aid or ice pack, suggest they seek medical care at the emergency room.

For critical medical emergencies do not wait to be instructed, call 911 immediately. If 911 is called, alert Security (channel 1)

If a guest is injured, contact Security (channel 1). Provide them with your location. DO NOT SAY THE INJURY OVER THE RADIO.

Security can then determine if emergency services should be considered. If it is an obvious emergency, anyone in the Aquarium can contact 911.

All injuries require an incident report to be filled out by the security officer. Please let him or her know of the incident and provide any details of the incident (what you saw, heard, etc.).

AEDs
In addition to first aid supplies, the Aquarium has 4 AED machines located in the following areas:
1. By the restrooms near Newman's Own Hall
2. Back wall by Sea Star Stage
3. Outside of Open Ocean (3rd floor)
4. A transportable one brought onto the RV Spirit of the Sound

Please watch the following video on how to use an AED machine

Other Personal Equipment

Wheelchairs: are kept in the care of Guest Services. If a guest needs a wheelchair for any reason, contact a guest service manager (channel 2). Wheelchairs should not be left unattended in a public area and should be returned to guest services when no longer needed.

Diapers & Clothing: in case of a guest accident, diapers/undergarments and sweatpants of baby, child, and adult sizes are available through guest services. Please radio or direct guests to a guest services manager for assistance.
